Recently, I’ve been listening to a song by Folabi Nuel and Ty Bello. The name of the song is How to love and it speaks about God showing us the right way to love Him. A few days back, I had a eureka moment about this song and I’ll be writing about that today.

4 years ago, I made a new friend. In the history of my life, I’d never been as intentional about any friend, as I was about this person. No matter how much I tried to love them, it wasn’t working. It was a constant bother to me because I couldn’t place the problem.

After a length of time, the problem began to unfold. Ordinarily, when you love someone, you love them the way you think love works. You may be intentional about them and spend quality time with them. To you, that is how love works. Although, it may not be sufficient, because to the other person that’s not what love is.

The dilemma here was I loved the way I thought they wanted. I’d never asked if there was a particular way they’d like to be loved. After doing some Bible plans about friendship, I began to ask questions. Questions about their story, what they’d like and if there was a way to be better. From that point onwards, the change in our friendship became evident. We both understood the right way to love each other as friends.

Why am I bringing this up today?

The right way to love God

Have you ever asked God about the right way to love Him? Even subconsciously?

When one becomes a Christian, you begin to see changes in them. Besides 2 Corinthians 5:17 that says old things have passed away, and new things have become, do you think about why this change comes? Well I have and it adds up to loving God.

The changes you make come as a result of loving God. When you love God, you want to make Him happy. You want Him to be pleased with you. Adjusting everything in your life, is a way of saying God, I love You.

In What are your actions saying, I brought it to your attention that your actions speak louder than words. Especially when you love God, it’s a total process.

From today, ask God for the right way to love Him. Ask Him to show you those things He would have you do. Learn more about His character. Unlearn actions that don’t please Him. Finally, ask the Holy Spirit to help you love God in the right way.
