In the last few months, I’ve been overwhelmed. Overwhelmed with the thought of the tasks to be done, the commitments, and the study I need to get done. If you’ve ever met me, you’ll know that I like to have a plan. I need to know how it starts and what the next step in the process is. If and when I don’t know, my peace takes flight.

In this article, I’d like to show you how to keep and seek (if you don’t have it) your peace, even when the situation is challenging.

The little girl – Holding on to your peace

While on a bus a few weeks ago, a little girl and her Father boarded the bus and sat a few seats ahead of me. I was quite fascinated because her Dad made space for her on his laps and ensured she slept peacefully.

As she slept, he looked out for their stop and ensured they alighted safely. Honestly, I was a little jealous because I was sleepy and couldn’t sleep because I needed to look out for my stop myself.

On getting off the bus, God reminded me that I can keep my peace if I let Him carry me. Since I’m my Father’s daughter, I can sit comfortably on my Father’s laps and let Him watch out for the stop.

Maybe you’ve been convinced that since you’re old enough to make your own decisions, so you don’t really need your Father anymore. I am happy to let you know that your Father is happy to advise and guide you if you’ll let Him. In case you’ve forgotten, you don’t stop being your Father’s child because you are grown.

Your Father – The one who watches over you

Up until this point, you’ve seen “My Father” or “Your Father,” and you may be confused because you may think I’m referring to your earthly Father.

No, I’m referring to your Heavenly Father, God. The one who created you in His image and likeness. The one who loves you so much to give His son for you. Some of us reading already know and have a relationship with Him.

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.
John 3:16‭ MSG

If you are yet to know Him or even develop a relationship with Him, God wants you to know that His arms are open to you. He says that He’s loved you since before you were born.

Contrary to popular belief that peace is a feeling you get, it’s actually a person you know. How do I know this? Aside from the fact that I experienced it just recently, His word says it:

For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation,
Ephesians 2:14 NKJV

If ever you’re seeking peace, you should look for Jesus. And if you don’t believe any of it, I ask that you try Jesus. You can actually take the challenges you have to Him and ask for a solution.

On the day I got the reminder that nothing had the right to steal my peace, I cried. Up until then, I’d let a lot consume my thoughts and steal my time with God.

Practical steps to take to keep your peace

One of the key indicators that your peace has been stolen is worry. You worry incessantly.

If you’re feeling this exact way, good news, it’s not too late to take back your peace. How should you keep your peace?

  • Give the situation to God (pray about it)
  • Find what the word of God says about the situation
  • Do what you can and stop worrying about it
  • Rest because you’ve given it to your Father

I’d like to leave you with this verse: John 16:33 TPT

And everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which is in me will be in you and will give you great confidence as you rest in me. For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the world!”

Understanding that you’re your Father’s child, and you don’t need to do it alone, should give you the peace you seek.

Keep your peace by giving it to your Father

    1. Thank you, Patty, for reading!! It’s a continuous reminder to me that peace is Jesus. As a result, even when tough situations occur, as long as we have Jesus, we’re settled.
