For a lot of people, questioning is seen as daring authority. However, the culture of accepting things without questioning is slowly fading. In line with this, the article aims to help you understand why you questioning your Christian journey is vital.

During the course of housing my acquaintance turned friend, we started watching documentaries on the Christian journey.

In March, I remember watching a BBC Africa documentary on Christianity in Uganda. To summarize it, people blindly believed what they were told, even when it was contrary to God’s ways and word. And if they tried questioning it, the “church” would ostracize them.

As a result of ignorance, some of them genuinely didn’t know better. What if Christianity has been introduced to them in this manner?

The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:13 that when you seek God with all your heart, you’ll find Him. After reading this Bible verse, it shows there’s no excuse. If you really want God to show you something, He’ll show you if you seek with all your heart.

After watching this documentary, I resolved within myself to always ask myself the why.

Questioning your Christian journey: Important things to look out for

Subsequently, watching Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey, another documentary, highlighted two important things to look out for.

Isolation

The first being that if your church subscribes to isolation, they don’t want you to learn the truth. Isolation in terms of physical isolation from others and spiritual isolation (only their teaching is right).

Ecclesiastes 4:9-11 with major emphasis on vs. 10 says if two people fall, one will lift up his friend, but woe to the one who is alone when he falls. This verse dispels the idea of physical isolation.

With regard to Spiritual isolation, Ephesians 4:11-13 details the five fold ministry (Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers) for the development of the Saints. All of these ministries are important for a balanced Christian journey.

Cult like tendencies

For the second, I’d say watch out for signs that your church may be a cult. What are these signs?

  • A charismatic leader
  • No questioning allowed
  • Control over the lives of the member by the leader
  • Isolation
  • Making people think that those who aren’t in the cult are inferior & lack insight
  • Preparation for an apocalypse
  • A lot of time and energy will be spent on the activities of the cult.

At the end of the day, I realize that a lot of people do not see these signs. This is because many are now accustomed to it. If you do find yourself in this situation, please re-evaluate your membership.

The Bible says in John 8:32, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”. You’re free, don’t let the opinions of others shackle you.

Questioning your Christian journey is vital. If you haven’t began, please do and if you are in the process, never forget that God will give you the answers you need. If you need any help, you can read this article on finding God or contact me.

Thank you for reading! Kindly share your thoughts thoughts on this, I’ll be reading.

  1. Keep up the good work darling Cousin, alot of people have been mislead to their early graves or to do things that are not logically sensible.

we all should brace up to question anything that looks secretive or questionable to our logic and thinking when it comes to religion and fate, instead of acting so gullible and naive.

May the grace of the lord which surpasses all understanding continue to guard and guide you now and always..amen….May you also continue to grow in his wisdom…AMEN

    1. Thank you Teju!
I hope that people will not just read but also question what looks wrong or “right”.
      Amen to all the prayers!
