It’s been some time my amazing readers; I got really busy with deadlines so I couldn’t meet up with this article. Now I’m back and the enemy within is that article you want to read.

A few weeks ago, there was a Coronavirus scare among my sisters and I. The person we met up with over the course of that weekend tested positive for COVID-19. Honestly, I don’t wish anyone that waiting period before you get the result of the test.

For some reason unknown to me, this title dropped in my spirit “the enemy within”. No, the person that got COVID-19 isn’t the enemy within. Why the enemy within you may ask?

A month prior to this scare, I got to go to a few countries (Yes, during the COVID-19 period in summer). Amazingly, out of all the countries I went to, I didn’t receive the gift of COVID-19. There was never even a time when I thought I could get it. Why? Asides God protecting me, I ensured my guard was kept up at all times.

Mask on at all times and yes, social distancing where possible. Why was it when I got back home that this happened? Over the last few weeks, I have seen this title come to play in some ways and I’ll be sharing them below.

Low Guards

Low Guards! Once home, although the guards were still in place, there was a sense of “it’s okay to lower my guard”. Instead of being on high alert, I brought my low to the table.

Do you ever feel this way when you go out? When you are outside, you are so attentive and conscious of everything but once you get home, caution is thrown to the wind.

In the same manner, this low guard can be taken advantage of because you aren’t as cautious as you would be. I believe this was the exact thing that happened with me at that time.

There’s a saying which I’ll paraphrase: if the enemy within cannot defeat you, the enemy outside can do nothing. Don’t be cautious of the enemy outside and lower your guard unknowingly for the enemy within.

Who is who?

Have you ever been in a situation where you couldn’t speak in a certain environment because you didn’t know who could be trusted or not?

In the same manner, how do you know if there’s an enemy within if you keep divulging information to everyone? I am not saying there will always be an enemy within your circle, what I mean is you need to be careful because not everyone around you may be who you think they are.

There’s one thing I always think about and I’m not sure if you’ve ever heard it before: Information is key in the spirit. How do you know if you aren’t letting the enemy within know everything? (Previously, I wrote an article about knowledge being good or bad, check it out here)

You

What if you’re your own enemy within? Do you ever think about that? Your actions could be setting you up against yourself.

This is something the devil tries to take advantage of : being overly cautious on the outside while neglecting the inner parts. Always seek to examine yourself and take responsibility where required.

In 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, Apostle Paul highlights the need for you and I to be disciplined and cautious else we lose out:

‘But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.’

I Corinthians 9:27

Another approach can be what’s happening inside your heart. Are you giving everything free access into your heart? Do you think of things as seeds being sown in your heart that will grow?

‘Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.’

Proverbs 4:23

Don’t be your own enemy, Be attentive and cautious always!

I know the article is shorter than my usual articles but a lot has happened in the last month. Honestly, I feel like I’m still recovering from the mental stress and guilt concerning the happenings in Nigeria.

Please stay safe, COVID-19 is still very real. Don’t let your guard down!
