The 2 billion people

One day last year, as I washed dishes, a thought popped in my head. Only 1 billion people out of 7 billion people are actively practising Christianity. Only God knows where the thought came from because I don’t think of such things. After conducting research, I found there’s been a growth to around 2 billion people in Christianity.

If you do the mathematics, you’ll realise that if only 2 billion people out of 8 billion serve God, that’s a whopping 25% of 100%. Of course, it hurts to know that God put in so much time to create humans and only that few know Him.

Do you have a child? I don’t, but there’s an analogy that works for this situation.

When you go through labour, regardless of the pain, your only desire is for the child to be born healthy. Imagine you do this 4 times, for 4 children. After this experience, you lay your pleasures, time, and wants on the altar of parenthood as a sacrifice.

Eventually, you’ve done your absolute best in the training of these children. You were intentional about them in every way and you pray that they walk in the right path.

What if only 1 child out of 4 chooses to recognize you in their life? Without a doubt, it will hurt you to your core. This is exactly the way God feels. He did His best; created amazing people, gave His son to die on the cross, and now, some people won’t acknowledge Him.

When I think of this, I cry because it hurts God. However, God doesn’t want anyone to come to Him out of compulsion. He has given each of us a free will to ensure that. He wants you to intentionally choose Him.

Your role

As a part of the 2 billion people (if you are), what’s your role? Your job and mine as well is to show the love of God. Tell it as it is, let the other 6 billion see you and want to know your God. Matthew 28:19-20 says that our commission is to spread the Gospel. Own the role completely!

If you aren’t a part of the 2 billion and you want to, first, you need to choose Jesus as your friend and confidant. Afterwards, you need to intentionally seek God as Matthew 6:33 says.

‘But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. ‘ Matthew 6:33

In the end, the 2 billion people know their God and will do exploits. However, you and I must continue to seek God and shine as directed in Matthew 5:16. Shine brightly, let the world know God through you.
