In the last two months, I’ve discovered a deeper side to the things of God. It’s refreshing, to say the least. Strive for deeper is my way of showing you that there is more.
In Acts 8 when Philip meets the Ethiopian Eunuch, he questions his understanding:
So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.
Acts 8:30-31 NKJV
Here are a few things I’ve learnt so far, these I pray encourage you to seek for deeper:
- Even though you have an understanding of spiritual things, there’s a deeper side still unexplored. In Acts 8:27, you see that the Eunuch went to Jerusalem to worship. Meaning he had some understanding of God, but in reading vs. 31, you find that he needed to be guided to the full knowledge of Christ.
- The Holy Spirit wants you to come to the right knowledge. In Acts 8:26 & 29, you see that Philip is led to the Eunuch. I’m reminded of Jesus’ words on the Holy Spirit:
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
John 16:13 NKJV
- It’s okay to have and ask questions, just like the Eunuch (Acts 8:34). Those questions will lead you to the place of deeper understanding.
- In answering the Eunuch’s questions, vs. 35 of Acts 28 says that Philip began at that Scripture and went further to preach Jesus to him. Could Philip not have just answered the question directly? Instead, he built on the question and revealed Jesus using Scriptures.
So the eunuch answered Philip and said, “I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?” Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him.
Acts 8:34-35 NKJV
My brother in Christ says that when God wants you to come deeper, He sends you someone to guide you.
