There’s a story for everything that’s under the sun. In this blog post we’ll get to read my own story.

Life from a Child’s view

I’m proudly Nigerian from the South-Western part of Nigeria. I am the 3rd child out of 4 beautiful girls with a beautiful name: Oluwafunmilayo meaning “God has given me joy”.

Many people often wonder when I tell them the meaning of my name if God has truly given me joy.

I hope my life and my story reflects the joy I feel every moment.

Going to church was a norm and still is, I remember this bible verse I saw in my primary school and heard countless times in my sunday school (a section of the church meant for children):

‘Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. ‘ Proverbs 22:6

I was always inquisitive as a child: I wanted to know why we went to church, who God was and who Jesus Christ was.

What attracted me to God as a child?

  • Fasting and Prayer: I always had to give up one meal preferably breakfast on Saturday. It didn’t make sense why I had to forgo a meal then but it has paid off now.
  • Reading my Bible: My mum made sure we read our bibles at least once everyday. Every time, there was a different story to read. I loved reading stories growing up, so reading my Bible was easy for me.

The People around me

God places people in our lives for different reasons, you might not realize the essence of that person in your life now but a time is coming when it will be clear as crystals.

My Mum

She’s a whole mood in terms of prayer and acknowledging God. Selfless and Diligent, I saw God through everything she did and her personality.

Indirectly, she pushed me to find what place God holds in my life. Thank you Mama 🙂

My sisters and Dad

My sources of encouragement when the going is tough and I feel like giving up.

I never realized that the journey with God would be rocky. It’s a daily struggle to be who God wants you to be.

Do you know how it feels when 5 people encourage you to keep pushing? That’s how I feel every single time.

‘Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. ‘ Proverbs 27:17

My best friend

The person who pulled the final cord. Just like me, she grew up in a christian home and has Pastors as parents.

Many would say that Pastor’s seeds (children) always turn out bad but she was very different. With a beautiful voice, she could sing her way anywhere.

‘A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.’ Proverbs 18:24

What did she do? She once stayed over at mine and played so many Christians songs as she slept and I got to express what God meant to me just by listening.

I found a way to God through songs, as funny as that is.

“As big and wonderful the works of God are, he always humbles us through the little things of life. What an awesome God! “

My Friends and Family

My friends and family have always passed the message God wants me to know knowingly or unknowingly. They have prompted me to grow in God by sharing songs they loved or buying Christian manuals for me.

Now that I think of it, God has really blessed me by putting me in a great family and giving me the best friends anyone could pray for.

End Note

Everyone finds God differently, you will find God at when the time is right. I have loved sharing my story with you and I hope you share your story with me here someday.

Funmi 🙂

  1. God needs us to realize that even the least of things matter. Finding God is a beautiful thing and wonderful journey to go through. Beautiful piece 👍👍

      1. It is a thing of joy to be in the Lord, even as much greater as been so youthful finding God so useful. The Bible says in 1st Corinthians 13 vs 11-12, that as a child we talk like a child but when became a man we put away childish ways. This is what happens to anyone that finds God in his life. As such will know God fully even as he fully known.continue in Him as He has promised in Jeremiah 33 vs 3. To always call upon Him and answer and shew you unsearchable things that you did not know. Praise God for your life as you remain in and He in you. God bless you dear Fumi.
