After writing the article, can I lose my salvation? I began to wonder why a lot of people don’t understand salvation. What exactly would make one trivialize this amazing gift of salvation? In thinking, I found 2 things.

Growing up in a Christian home

Unfortunately, majority of those who we see trivialize salvation are those born into Christian homes. It’s seems they have no understanding of what salvation is, nor what it comes with. Should they be blamed?

Growing up, my mother always drummed into the ear of my siblings, and I; “Salvation is personal. My prayers will not take you to heaven”. At such a young age, I knew I had a decision to make. Besides that, the children’s Sunday school teachers did an excellent job of telling us Bible stories and explaining what Jesus did on the cross.

I still remember the story of the narrow road that leads to heaven. I definitely wanted to stay on the narrow path. Actually, I got a tad bit religious. Thank God for His light.

All of that I said to say this: Quite a number of people do things because they’ve been told to or they have no option. Going to church because your parents go, doing daily devotionals, so you have something to say when you’re asked, etc.

I do not wish to start a blame game. Instead, I want us to consider this: That my Father found Jesus and received salvation, doesn’t mean I received the same. So my father will teach me as he grows in the knowledge of Jesus, so I can also get salvation.

A lot of people confuse religious activities for a relationship with God. Going to or serving in church doesn’t mean you’re saved. Despite growing up in a Christian household, you must make a decision to accept Jesus.

Belief in a watered-down Gospel

The 2nd point that came to mind is belief in a watered-down version of the Gospel. Recently, in my local church, we spoke about what the Gospel is. Let’s see Romans 1:1-4 NKJV:

‭Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God: which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.

Here are the important pieces in the Gospel:

  • The promise of Jesus through the Prophets in the Holy Scriptures.
  • The birth of Jesus in the flesh as the seed of David
  • The death & resurrection of Jesus

P.S: Did you know the Holy Scriptures referred to in the New Testament is Genesis to Malachi? Luke 24:27 NKJV puts it right: ‭‭And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

A lot of people have believed in a Jesus that simply doesn’t exist or a Gospel with wrongful additions. Hence, the trivialization of salvation.

All of these I write to you to draw your attention to the fact that someone out there may trivialize salvation; which shouldn’t be the case. Understanding that Christ loves us and died to save us from the clutches of sin & death, we ought to guard jealousy this gift of salvation. You will, I pray.
