It’s been a while, my dear readers. Today’s article is centered on surviving turbulent times as a Christian.
It’s one thing to hear about turbulent times, and another to experience it. About 3 – 4 months ago, when inflation showed up in Hungary, my sister and I discussed that the Adults we know didn’t prepare us for this season. How we as little children wanted to become Adults, not knowing the truth we’d have to face.
Dear Adults, how do you search for a house in the middle of inflation and a war? After searching for about 5 months, with a deadline of July 31st coming up, the hope we had began to wane.
As an icing on the cake, I wasn’t hearing God as I normally would. It felt like I was just going through the motions and nothing was happening.
In Nigeria, there’s this joke about sleeping under the bridge when you have no place to stay. While we knew that wouldn’t happen to us, it looked like a possibility.
To sum it up, the last few months have been turbulent times. Instead of dwelling on this, I’d like to focus on the takeaway from these times.
Survival techniques for turbulent times
The Bible says if you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is weak. Even though I wanted to, there was no fainting, as the Holy Spirit provided the needed strength.
1. Remind yourself of the promises of God to you. It’s easy to forget these when you’re going through turbulent times. Here’s one of such promises: Thanks be to God who causes you and I to triumph in all things in Christ (2 Corinthians 2:14).
1a. Read your Bible. If you want to know the promises of God, you should read your Bible.
2. Pray. Even when you don’t feel like it, or think it’s worth it, pray. Prayer isn’t only for the good times, it’s for every time (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
3. Have a community you can count on. Be it Church, your friends, your family. You want to tell people that will pray with and over you. People who will check-in and encourage you when the turbulent times come on strong.
4. Be sensitive to the leading of the Spirit. It may not be the usual way you hear God, so don’t rule anything out. That way, you don’t miss the word.
Yesterday, I read Jo’s article on Pause, Play, Prepare. She couldn’t have said it better because while those times were trying, I realize that I’ve grown so much. God is forever working on the back scene. Trust Him!
Thank you for reading and it’s good to be back.
