These past few weeks have been demanding; the ability to exist can only be by the grace of God. In this article, I’ll be sharing my learnings on being made in the image and likeness of God. Shall we?

It’s amazing to have family and friends because you are able to share your emotions, thoughts and more often than not, ideologies. However, there’s something that may come with this: the feeling of not having your love or efforts reciprocated.

A month or two ago, I shared on Instagram and Facebook about times when I feel like withdrawing because my efforts aren’t reciprocated. Honestly, it takes God’s grace and mental strength to not actually withdraw. Do you ever feel this way?

I’ll leave the post below for the purpose of clarity.

A year ago, I wrote an article on unconditional love. Although the article is still relevant, it’s time to acknowledge that love is a choice especially when it may not be reciprocated at the depth in which you give it.

The Genesis of the story

Earlier, I mentioned that these last weeks have been a little stressful. What makes it a little more difficult is when people ask you for things and then don’t acknowledge it. Does that ever happen to you?

It has happened a few times over the last weeks; turning to God with my emotions is more common these days, just because He knows. Do you also go to God with your emotions? If No, why not?

On one of those days, I remember asking God if this is how he feels every time you and I ask for things. The scenario in which you ask God for something and when He gives you, there’s silence. You can’t even be found in the conversation because you have gotten what you want.

The next time you may be found is probably when you need something. If I may ask, is it fair? I’m sure you already know the answer to the question.

Biblical Reference

In the book of Genesis, when God was creating man, He said:

‘“Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” ‘

Genesis 1:26

The reference for us is the first line; “Let Us make man in Our image and likeness”. Who is this Us that God wants to make you and I in their image and likeness? I believe it’s the Trinity (God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit) being referred to here.

A Reminder

My younger sister reminded me last week that for you and I to be made in the image and likeness of God, it means we also get to experience some of the things man does to God. You may be thinking in what way, so I’ll explain.

Earlier, I shared how I feel when people are constantly asking for things and don’t acknowledge them. Now, imagine how God who does a lot more for you feels when you do the exact thing.

God is not a stranger to many things but for you, it’s new because people usually don’t do those things to you.

Being made in the image and likeness of God can mean different things to a lot of people. However, it all points to having similar experiences as God. You’re beautiful because God is, you’re smart because He is, and so on.

To acknowledge that you are created in God’s image is to accept that you’ll definitely get some of God’s experiences.

The amazing thing about this is that you can always go to God with these experiences. He knows exactly how you feel and gives the best comfort, I know this first-hand. Give it a try!

Thank you very much for reading! 2020 has been such a year that if it was not for God, we wouldn’t have made it.

I would like to thank you for consistently reading my articles through out the year 2020. It has been a learning curve, one I am proud of.

On this note, I would like to say that I will be taking a break from writing till the year 2021 by God’s grace. May God be with you and protect us all!

  1. This is a really interesting view of being the likeness of God, it not just all the good things He embodies but also His experiences. I never thought of it like that but it makes a lot of sense to me.
I also really like this: “The amazing thing about this is that you can always go to God with these experiences. He knows exactly how you feel and gives the best comfort, I know this first-hand. Give it a try!” I’ve been listening to the new Chandler Moore songs and they have a similar message. Awesome post Funmi!!
