Do you ever hear people say that God gives us the desires of our hearts? If you haven’t, well now you have heard it. For the One my heart desires is my first public journaling experience. I am quite nervous about bringing you along but I hope it speaks to you about the character of God.

In the previous article, What do you have in your hands for 2021, I made mention of getting a journal last year. This article is what I would usually write in that journal. Shall we?

Dear God,

Firstly, thank You for the amazing people reading this entry. You know their names, locations and needs; I ask that You please bless and protect them. Thank You for the gift of life; a lot of people are no more but You have given us the opportunity to live.

I want to say Thank You for your love; the way You father me is so amazing. Constantly, I find myself thinking if I deserve the love I get from You. 1 John 4:19 says “We love You because You first loved us”. Such love, I cannot understand!

A lot of times, I hear people say that God gives us the desires of our hearts but I just found the verse. Psalm 37:4 describes this very mystery but I want to start from the first verse of Psalm 37.

The context of heart desires

The New King James Version (NKJV) of the Bible describes Psalm 37 as the “Heritage of the Righteous and the Calamity of the wicked”. Such precision! Verse 1 and 2 speaks to the righteous and tells them not to envy or fret because of the wicked. In the end, they (the wicked) will be cut down.

In verse 3, the Bible records that there are a few things to be done. They are listed as follows:

  • Trust God, Do good
  • Dwell in the land, Feed on God’s faithfulness

What exactly does it mean to dwell in the land and feed on God’s faithfulness? Some versions of the Bible say it means to live safely and prosper in the land God has put you in. What do you think?

Psalm 37:4 (NKJV) tells us to delight in the Lord and He will give us the desires of our heart. The Good News Bible (GNB) presents it as: “Seek your happiness in the Lord and He will give you your heart’s desires”.

Journaling continued

God, I am not sure if this way will capture the Thank You I want to say. Nevertheless, I will continue writing the thoughts which my heart holds. Do You remember the time I finished from LGHS? When I had the American dream. I am pretty sure You laughed because it was definitely not Your plan for me.

Hungary, yes Hungary was my school of learning that You are the only one my heart desires. They say live abroad, your life will be easy but they forget to add “with God”. The comments, tears, trials, and learning curves all led me to You.

With You God, even being broke was gold because I knew You wouldn’t leave. Especially in those times when help was not sure, You stood your ground.

Where should I start from for the amazing friends I have? I don’t think I ever prayed to find them. They all just found me but it was not without the commitment, tears and sacrifice. If Thank you would be a currency, they will all be rich.

God, I really cannot say thank You enough for my family. Honestly, with them it’s easy to love You and just be my industrious and outspoken self. When there was no one else, they acted as a support system and held my hands. Thank You for all of them!

Childhood desires

God, who can understand You? How You give the desires that were merely passing thoughts? As a child, I thought I’d study something computer related (oh well). Of course, you grow up and become convinced to go with the flow.

That basic thought I passed as little was actually what caught Your attention. If I say I am not amazed, I’d be lying. How do You do this God?

So now God, You see why I’m not sure if saying Thank You this way counts but Thank You God! That You walk with me, notice my every thought and then give me the exact desire I considered transient.

God, if I never get anything but You, I know I’m sorted for life. Thank You for being the one my heart desires out rightly.

The song on my heart now

It took a lot of convincing to put this on here but I’m happy I did. If this is the only way you ever get to see God then, yes to this. Did it bless you or encourage you to start journaling? I hope it did. Thank you for reading!
