Dear Job Seeker, applying and even getting a response from companies is arduous. When I applied for my first job 3 years ago, I didn’t know much about the job market, and I’d gotten so many rejections. There had to be a right way to get in. A friend from Church – working already – reached out with timely advice & help, which landed me an interview.
3 years later, I asked that he share some insights, and here they are:
1) Identify your strengths and weaknesses: Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will help you to focus on your strengths and prepare for your weaknesses. This will also help you to choose the right job that fits your skills and interests.
2) Customize your resume (CV) and cover letter: Tailor your resume and cover letter to each job you apply for. Highlight your skills and experiences that are most relevant to the job description. Your resume should only contain skills that relate to the job you are applying for. If possible, limit it to a single page.
3) Network: Network with people in your industry or profession. Attend career fairs, join professional associations, and connect with people on LinkedIn. Networking can help you to learn about job opportunities and get referrals. In addition, always keep your LinkedIn profile up to date.
4) Prepare for interviews: Research the company and the job you are applying for. Practice answering common interview questions, and prepare your own questions to ask the interviewer.
5) Be persistent: The job search process can be challenging and frustrating, but don’t give up. Keep applying to jobs and following up with employers.
6) Keep learning: Continuously improve your skills and knowledge. Take online courses, attend workshops, and read industry publications. This will make you more competitive and increase your chances of finding a job.
Final words
Dear Job Seeker, although the process may be tidious, the job at the other end is rewarding. You only need 1 company – the right one – to say yes to your application.
Dear Job seeker, don’t forget to pray about it. God wants you to have the best.
I would have lost heart unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalms 27:13-14 NKJV
