In February, over the course of conversation with a friend, He shared that he grew up in a Christian household. Consequently, they adopted a certain way of life and attended a church. However, as he grew older, he saw his siblings choose to attend different churches than the one they attended as children. This prompted questions in his heart; was there a problem with the church they’d attended?, What is the problem?, Is it a Doctrine problem?, etc… Within the conversation, I realised he came to a crossroad in his faith. Although he didn’t call it a crossroad, he wanted answers to the questions he had. Overall, he found answers much later. This article is for you who have questions in your heart and want to answer the question: “What to do? I’m at crossroads in my faith”

Before moving further, what is a crossroads? Merriam-Webster describes it as a crucial point, especially where a decision must be made.

How do you know you’re at a crossroads in your faith? Here are 2 key pointers from many:

  1. You have so many questions about the belief system
  2. You’re thinking of leaving the faith

Honestly, it is okay to be at crossroads, especially since you acknowledge you’re in that phase and are asking questions.

Not to add more questions to your list, but here are some important questions you should answer for yourself:

  1. Do you understand who you’ve believed in?
  2. Do you understand the salvation you’ve received?

This will provide you with a foundation to find answers to the other questions you may have.

The process of salvation and our Saviour

In Church on Sunday, my pastor shared that there are 3 important parts in Salvation:

  1. The person who gets salvation
  2. The process of Salvation
  3. The Saviour

In our last article, we answered the question Does God choose the people who get salvation?. That covered the first part and some aspects of 2&3. Let’s build a little on the process of salvation & the Saviour.

You & I already established that salvation is the result of a man’s belief in Christ. And that we need salvation from sin and its nature.

Romans 6:23 NKJV sheds more light on this:
[23] For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In saving us from sin, Christ actually saved us from the eternal death caused by sin. Subsequently, He gave us eternal life in him.

Put another way, Hebrews 2:14-15 ERV says
[14] These children are people with physical bodies. So Jesus himself became like them and had the same experiences they have. Jesus did this so that, by dying, he could destroy the one who has the power of death—the devil. [15] Jesus became like these people and died so that he could free them. They were like slaves all their lives because of their fear of death.

In salvation, Jesus ensured our deliverance from the fear of death. That fear was only possible because we were in unbelief.

How do you leave the place of crossroads in my faith?

  1. Actively speak to God about it: Spend time praying about it. Take your questions to God, He’s not scared of them.
  2. Don’t isolate yourself: Find a local community/church that can provide answers to the questions you have or can speak the truth of God’s word to you.
  3. Speak up: You might be actively praying, and you’re in a local church, but you aren’t speaking up on the current questions you have.
  4. Take your time to build conviction by studying God’s word.

Even as you get answers to your questions, run them through God’s word. More than anything, God wants you to find the right information, so don’t be scared to go back to Him.

Jeremiah 6:16 ERV says
[16] This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask where the old road is. Ask where the good road is, and walk on that road. If you do, you will find rest for yourselves. But you people have said, ‘We will not walk on the good road.’

In Jeremiah 6:16, The Prophet urges you & I to consider where we are and ask for the good, old road. Also known as the way of righteousness and to walk in it. This way, we’ll have peace. So, being at crossroads is never the problem, it’s asking for the way of righteousness and not following it, that is.

Can I pray for you?
