Are you pulling your weight?

Before this rowing experience, the words “pulling your weight” meant nothing special to me. However, I’m now a changed person and I’ll tell you why. This is the link to the first part of this series. Please read it before you go on.

Before that faithful Saturday, I honestly believed I was pulling my weight. Turns out, I’d been living a lie.

Pulling your weight means to contribute or pitch in.

Once on the water, a team of 4 people, majorly newbies, began the adventure of rowing. When you paddle or row, you are meant to do it in a certain way. However, no one tells you that to do it correctly, you’ve got to pull the weight of the water. At least, I wasn’t told.

My dear readers, yes, water has weight. When one is trying to get out of a mud puddle, they use a lot of their energy to climb out. That’s how the weight of water is. You don’t paddle right if you don’t apply some force.

As we got to some part of the 2.5 hour journey, we began to slack. Primarily, someone wasn’t pulling their weight. As a result, every other person on the canoe added to their effort.

In Galatians 2:7-8, Apostle Paul speaks about being responsible for the Gospel to the uncircumcised. And, the Gospel for the circumcised belonging to Apostle Peter. If you imagine that Apostle Paul didn’t pull his weight, you may not be saved.

When everyone is on the same ship, team work matters. Each one will assume a different position to contribute to the goal.

You can see this in Ephesians 4:11-13. Here, it is highlighted that some will be prophets, apostles, evangelists, pastors and teachers. Why? To equip the saints and edify the body of Christ. In the event that one of these do not pull their weight, the saints will not be fully equipped.
