A mind settled on Jesus

One of the amazing people I know always says: When we get to know Jesus, our spirits become eternally persuaded. However, the mind needs constant reminders before it becomes eternally persuaded. What does that mean?

Imagine you come to believe in Jesus. In accordance with Romans 10:9-10, you confess Jesus with your mouth meaning believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. As a result of this action, you have become saved, severing ties with the world and sin.

Ephesians 1:5 says that God adopts us as His children by Christ. Technically, in believing, you become a child. Knowing that you weren’t always a child, you renew your mind daily with the word of God.

Since we’re now on the same page, how can you settle your mind on Jesus?

James’ case on your mind

James 1:5-6 presents us with a case:

‭[5] If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. [6] But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

Apparently, there’s a need. And you can ask from God who gives liberally. Although, according to vs.6, there’s a specific way to ask. How?

In Faith aka without doubt.

What should happen to a man who asks with doubt? Vs. 7 & 8 tell us that:

[7] For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; [8] he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Consequently, the double-minded man has demonstrated instability. Which is not the default of a person who knows that God gives liberally.

Reading further in vs 13, this same double-minded man concludes on false things about God.

‭[13] Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God can not be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.

The joy in this is that we’re not of a double-mind. Where we previously saw that option, it ceases to exist.  Why?

Isaiah’s case on your true nature

Isaiah 26:3 presents us with who we really are:

‭[3] You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

Prophet Isaiah is telling you and I that for your mind to be settled/stayed on God, you have to trust in God.

How can you trust God ? You study His word and allow it to shape your mind.

For example, Apostle Paul writes to the Church in Ephesus to say:

‭[20-21] But this isn’t what you were taught about Jesus Christ. He is the truth, and you heard about him and learned about him. [22]  You were told that your foolish desires will destroy you and that you must give up your old way of life with all its bad habits.

[23] Let the Spirit change your way of thinking [24] and make you into a new person. You were created to be like God, and so you must please him and be truly holy. Ephesians 4:20-24 CEV

My prayer for you is this: May your mind always be settled on Jesus. For in that state, you behave & look more like your Father, God.
