As I prepared the blog post for this week, I already had my topic and material but God said I should share this with you today. Faith without boundaries might have a different meaning to you than it does to me, nevertheless today you will see it from a neutral point of view.

Faith

Google says Faith is to have complete trust in someone or something. This is true but the Bible has a different meaning of faith:

‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. ‘ Hebrews 11:1

Someone in my church once used this analogy:

“When you sit down, you don’t look back to make sure the chair is there. You just sit down expecting the chair to be there and it is there. Likewise, faith works in that manner.”

What does Faith consist of ?

Hebrews 11:1

“Substance of things hoped for”

Substance is the physical matter which a person or thing consists and which has a tangible, solid presence.

Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen.

“Evidence of things not seen”

Evidence is the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid.

To see is to perceive with your eyes 🙂

What is the basis of your faith?

A lot of people usually base their faith on what seems to be convenient for them but God is telling you to make him the base for your faith:

‘that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.’ I Corinthians 2:5

It is of no benefit to put your faith in what cannot guarantee tomorrow or anything. Why not base your faith on God ?

‘By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.’ Hebrews 11:3

Boundaries

We see boundaries everyday in our lives: from the office to the house to the church to our relationships. What are boundaries and Why do we create them?

A boundary is a line which marks the limit of an area, a dividing line. Personally, I try to set boundaries because I don’t want to mix two different things or group of friends together.

Are you the type of person who is always setting boundaries ? Do you ever try to do some things and you find that you can’t pass a certain level ? When you set a lot of boundaries you get used to them and you find yourself applying them to many situations irrelevant or not.

I am not saying boundaries are not good, healthy boundaries are great as a matter of fact but you should not over-use them.

Faith without boundaries

As you read about the faith which has no boundaries, you will see examples of people who had faith in the midst of trials and temptations. Although you will not read about them all here, you can find the best examples detailed in Hebrews 11 .

It is common to face a lot of trials and temptations regularly as a christian, it is impossible to stand without faith and without it, it is impossible to please God:

‘But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.’ Hebrews 11:6

How do you develop faith?

The Bible quotes :

‘So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.’ Romans 10:17

In order to grow or develop your faith, you need to listen to the word of God (The Bible). Reading the Bible and some Bible plans, going to church and many more are the different ways in which you can hear the word of God. It is up to you to decide if you want to develop or not.

NOAH

Did you ever read the story of Noah? It was one of my favourite Bible stories growing up. You can read it from Genesis 6 to Genesis 9!

Noah was an exceptional man, he was the only one who found grace in God’s eyes when everyone else was committing sin.

‘By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.’ Hebrews 11:7

God warned Noah of things yet to come and Noah acted swiftly: He could have hesitated or better still ignored the warnings but he obey and trusted that God will not lead him astray or leave him halfway.

Trusting in who he could not see and what he had not seen before, he obeyed the letter to the core and God blessed him afterwards.

The Motivation

In order for you to have faith like this, you can take motivation which is from Hebrews 12:1-2. Permit me to paraphrase:

‘Therefore you also, since you are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares you, and run with endurance the race that is set before you, Hebrews 12:1

God knows that there will be a lot of trials you may face, however he tells you today to:

‘look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.’ Hebrews 12:2

Endurance

You can only get the perfect faith if you endure:

‘knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. ‘ James 1:3-4

God has created you in such a unique way : When you ask for some things, he says not yet because he wants you to endure for a little while before you actually get it.

Eventually, you realise God wants you to learn a thing or two before you get your want.

How can you sustain the faith?

It is not enough to have faith, you need to keep growing and moving. This is why the Bible tells you :

‘Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.’ James 2:17

Faith and works go hand in hand and allows for growth and perfection:

‘Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? ‘ James 2:22

Your Mind

Your mind could hinder your faith because when it is not making sense, you try to find another way but God doesn’t want you to understand it, he just wants you to do what he says.

In my experience, whatever does not seem logical to my mind does not make sense. I have learnt to work with God and not use my mind because I always try to understand but I don’t know where to start from.

Faith without boundaries does not need your mind to understand, it only needs you to do what God has commanded you to do. You can try to understand how God did it but it will take some time.

End Note

‘But you who wait on the Lord Shall renew your strength; you shall mount up with wings like eagles, you shall run and not be weary, you shall walk and not faint.’ Isaiah 40:31

Faith without boundaries does not come easy, it involves a lot of waiting, crying and overthinking sometimes especially in my case. At the end:

‘ we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. ‘ Romans 8:28

  1. Great post!!, the Noah part reminded me of a message by Sarah Jakes, she said what God is doing right now is what is going to happen on earth tomorrow and like in Noah’s time, he was doing something that looked foolish to people but in the end was wisdom and faith to God. Sometimes what faith entails isn’t the “smartest” thing in our eyes but our standard of wisdom is God.
Faith is such a journey and the struggling and crying and still following God is faith.
